fine furniture repair and restoration - historic preservation
Andrew R. Knapp
Before returning to my roots here in Clayton, NY, I spent 20 years based in the Baltimore/Washington, DC region, doing work from NYC to Miami, Florida. For ten of those years I worked for very successful architectural woodworking firms that fabricated and installed high-end millwork up and down the East Coast.
Wanting more independence, I then established my own woodworking and refinishing business and had a long list of high-end commercial and residential clients. Since returning to Clayton in 2011, I have been involved in the restoration of historic wooden boats and continued my custom work for private clients.
Using knowledge gained from decades of experience in traditional woodworking, wooden boats, finishing, and architectural millwork, I not only bring neglected objects back to life, but also design and build custom pieces for contemporary use. Although my focus is on saving and preserving furniture and architectural elements, I am not exclusively focused on that.
I am plugged into a nexus of highly skilled contemporary artisans who work in diverse arts and crafts. This cooperative network gives me the ability to restore, modify, and create all manner of complex projects for residential and commercial clients. More recently, I am beginning to design and craft high-end, original pieces by repurposing unique architectural elements and used furniture from the 1000 Islands region.
